HPET bios setting

After google searching for awhile I still have no clue what HPET does and how it affects performance depending on whether it is on or off.

So does anyone know how it affects performance with it on vs off? (and yes i have read the wiki article and it doesn't say anything about performance just about timers and idk what that means.)

HPET only works in the Windows 7 or Vista OS. If you have XP, disable it.
Example, Lets say you knew you had a fax coming in at a certain time, HPET could be set to wake your computer to receive it.
