nice articke. I am impressed how well it adapts to many other big companies. I worked in the Spanish IPTV biggest opator, we had a webtv, social platform back in 2000 that was unique in the world. Back then there were no smartphones, no iphone, no ipad.... but we had web enabled set top boxes with enail, hd video on demand, etc etc.
Asbsoon as it was proposed to be turned into a product, the structure if the corporation engulfed our fantastic teams. Bosses were tempted with corporate smoke, power fihts energed, man-in'the-middles were born everyday and to justify themselves made crazy design decisions...
Today? our beloved platform has of course died, and the brilliant, pioneer iptv engineers are unmotivated with routine jobs, if not left the company. Add to the mix that Spain is not US and you can well realise why we're moving in 25%s unemployment rate. Corporations kill motivation and innovation, but at least in the U.S. you have options. Here we don't.
