so where are the spec's?

after using the archos 9 for 10 min, if they do not change the Win 7 interface its dead in the water for me.. Win 7 may be multi-touch capable but not touch friendly and the way I loose stylus they are a non starter for me..

and I though I could get over that by loading my own apps.. well turns out no.. my apps are not configure for touch screen, small icons and looked for hover for task..

and From the Flash I have seen in use on tablets.. Slow and unusable.. Games are not made for touch screen use and Hulu keep freezing up.
testing out the Android archos 5 keep crashing..

I use my Ipod touch now and it does everything I need for work, it had RDP and VNC and a web browser (no flash needed for work) and a SSH terminal. Just the Screen is too small

for Book reading, I have found nothing I like better than Stanza so far, and Amazon Kindle for PC is horrible.

and folding laptops with touch screen are too heavy to hold in tight server rooms to read a PDF manual while doing work.. and no there is no place to set these things down sometimes..

HP Slate is the most promising competition for the Ipad... but they will have to change the interface of windows 7 in order to be anything more than a toy..

Android needs to crash less IMO.. but maybe with the faster processor and more memory it will have less problems than it does on my phone..

[citation][nom]hakesterman[/nom]I doubt that HP is going to sell more Slates than Apple is going to sell Ipads and i'll try to explain why. First off battery life, the ipad has 120 HRS, the Slate will struggle to get 4 to 5 HRS. Secondly is the Weight of the Slate, it is more than double of that of the Ipad. Third is speed, the Ipad will be considerably faster because it uses flash memory and not a hard drive like the Slate. Furthermore being that it is Windows driven you will need Antvirus software on it, which will slow it down even more. Fourth the Ipad has ten times more games already available at the App store. Last but not least, by the time the Slate is actually available to purchase, the Ipad will have already reached between 3 and 5 million Units in sales. Don't get me wrong i hope they do sell enough of them to give Apple some competition , but i don't see it that close of a race.[/citation]
Wow, I wish we all had access to your eternal well of bullshit facts.
Please tell us Oh Great One which websites you are getting this unsubstantiated hyperbole from?
Links please.

the Ipad has ten times more games already available at the App store
Ten times more than what?
Windows?
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hilarity ends, even the free games that you can play on MiniClip or CandyStand outnumber the payfor games on the app store and then you also have access to every Windows game ever made that can pass minimum sys requirements, but that is still thousands of games.

Sorry, I just have to laugh right in your face again
PWAH-HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

+1 I agree. Jobs has been running around for the last few months signing contracts with the biggest publishers. He already has a profitable business with the iTunes store and now he is doing the same with the iBooks store. HP and the rest of the competitors are way behind on this filed.

hmmm... so which IGP/GPU the slate is using? Hope not the one from Intel (can we have Ion or Ion2?!)...>_<

Dropping the CPU from Core2 to Atom is not a surprise due to its price tag, but how much memory/storage space will the basic modle (€400)have?

Will it come w/ 3G? How much extra? How much is the plan? Battery life?

What eBook format will it support? DRM? (most likely..... yes..>_< )

720P? 1080P(I am dreaming)?

I will need more information to say is this going to rise or fail..

Guess it is still too early to ask too much..
but so far..

Atom: Sad
€400: nice
Camera: nice... just at the wrong side
flash support: great (if it works smoothly)
Win7: hmm... yes and no.. we may have multi-tasking but wondering how many programs it can handle in once without making everything choppy..

yea.. I remember that... there was an article saying that people were surprised that how could Jobs convince that many publishers to go w/him.

The iPad may not be the best of its kind on/will be on the market, but Jobs seems have done an amazing job on those heavy weight publishers.

It is pretty amazing, but is this a good thing or not?... I am not sure..

Just like the iTune which played a huge role in making the legalized music downloading a mainstream .... but at the same time... well.. we all (at least a lot of us) know what damage has it done.

Lol, I like how the MS Fanboys keep throwing negative marks for anything that does not say "OMG MS is so much better". Its a real shame that Tom's hardware has been overloaded with bunch of winy little punks over the last couple of years.

Cheers

By the way, to clear one thing...

We do have a lot of games available in windows system.

However most of the games we care won't run smoothly (if at all) on an atom computer with Intel IGP (even w/ Ion will be kind of tricky) and most of them are not designed for touch screen playing. So unless somebody is going to develop touchscreen-specific games on Win7, hope HP slate to be a great gaming console is too much to ask.

Yes it does play flash games... but buying a tablet for flash game playing?... I am not sure...

The only hope I will put are those games developed/will be developed for Win Moble 7. But will that upscale well? I am not sure.

I really hope HP will be able to solve this in someway smartly

People wont buy a tablet to play flash games, but having a tablet and not being able to play flash games is deliberately crippling it OR, even worse, blatent profiteering as it forces people to pay for games that are no better than free flash games.
Is anyone seriously telling me that Jellycar is worth the money compared to at least 50 other games available for zip on Candystand?
Both devices will be able to view PDF and Word files.
Only the Windows one will have the capability to install programs to author or edit those same files.
Photoshop, maybe I would like to properly edit those pictures before uploading them to Facebook or Photobucket.
The App Store forces you to pay, every time, for every single thing you want to put on the device.
The Windows one will give you free access to millions and millions of bits of freeware.
Hands down if you want more options the iPad is not the way to go.

Well, I suppose, even if you like the comment or not, it is the truth.

Suddenly the all-mighty piece of rock, from the HP stall, is getting mightily castrated - at least processor wise. A crappy netbook processor for an overinflated netbook price... no surprise at all, knowing HP's greediness, and penny pinching practices (hx4700 - iP210 "evolution" is telling). Just wait for the other corner cutting measures, when final specs are announced.
What was the wintarded m$ fankiddie herd lately whining about? "Underpowered ipad processor", of course... and how much better the c2d powered windblow$ $even (aka vi$hta sp2+) HP tablet will be. Not really so... But the latest gamer/drm o$ crap from redmond will make up for everything, right? Wrong.

It's much more of a shame for those editors, which cater to this pack.

I don't feel insulted at all... rotten fruit lu$ers are much more well behaved than the wintarded mixcro$uxx fankiddie herd, which flocks at TH. While there are undoubtedly enough wealthy idiots around, who can afford apple's high prices, their numbers are like a drop in the ocean, compared to the rabid gamer/drm o$ lu$er pack.

What does this amount to? A few hundred kilobytes? Really pathetic...

Even if Bill Gates came round your house and shit you a solid gold brick you would still hate Microsoft. Your opinion doesn't count because you are bias.
The simple fact that millions of bits of freeware are out there is testament to the fact that MS happily caters to anyone who wants to write free software and not censor it prior to distribution (like the App Store).
I really shouldn't engage you in debate because as far as i'm concerned you are a one-dimensional bot with no interest in discussion and only interested in flaming perfectly legitimate threads when anything to do with Microsoft is discussed. I'm sure you think it hilarious with your witty quips but really it is just childish and the same old tired cliche phrases are starting to look a little strained. We know you are a troll. You know you are a troll. Everyone in the world including your mum knows you are a troll.
Please do the world a favour and die. Razor down, not sideways, guaranteed to work.

You will have some opt for the iPad but they will be disappointed it doesn't give them flash especially when the guy next to you will be enjoying his much fuller experience listening to iTunes, watching flash content, reading his mail, and viewing his kindle e-reader content on the HP Slate; run office apps, read/schedule appointments in Outlook, capture/edit photos on the spot; flip through contacts, make a call...you tell me which comes closer to a much richer user experience for the same money...

[citation][nom]Euphoria_MK[/nom]Right.... and then while their battery dies, I'll be still surfing the net and reading my book on the iPad while they stare at their blank screen.[/citation]
Not Candystand tho, right?
