what's a good a hub? for $40 and has 4port?

I never saw a bad hub. There are not a lot of things simpler than a hub in networking, so anything will do.

In ancient times they had no statistics so they had to fall back on lies

If that is in the US and in US$ it is very expensive. You can easily get a 8 port switch for that amount, and a switch gives you better performance.
