[SOLVED] huge fps drops after getting a new monitor

so in the past I have used a 60hz LG monitor and it ran games smoothly (games like CSGO or Battlefield 1). But then after it broke I switched to Samsung c24rg52 which has a 144hz monitor and I use a hdmi cable. The thing is that when I play the games I used to the fps is absolutely horrible. Even CSGO which doesn't take a lot runs like 30-40 fps. So I would like to ask if there is some kind of incompatibility with my pc and monitor?

gpu: gtx 1050 ti
cpu: i3-8100
ram: 16gb

Solution
I see, so how am I supposed to know which cables are the bad or good ones for my pc?

yes that's correct It is connected to the card, I don't think the whole monitor even works if i plug it in to the motherboard

If you are buying on Amazon just go by the reviews. I have several of these cables https://www.amazon.com/DisplayPort-Benfei-Gold-Plated-Supports-Compatible/dp/B077BPW8XJ and never had an issue. Also Monoprice.com sells cheap cables that I've never had an issue with.
It was LG flatron ips234v which used a dvi cable i think

Hmm both monitors are 1080P so the resolution hasnt changed. Try and use a Displayport cable or different HDMI cable if possible.

Also make sure you have the monitor set to 144hz refresh rate inside windows.

Also I know it can sound like a stupid thing to ask, but make sure you have your HDMI or DIplay port cable plugged into your graphics card and not the motherboards video out.

AFAIK it’s not possible for your monitor to directly affect fps unless you use vsync so you have different frame caps across monitors

At first connect your new monitor to GPU with DisplayPort cable and set desktop refresh rate in Windows to 144 Hz. Samsung C24RG5 monitor does support FreeSync which make a hope that it will be supported by your GPU as G-Sync Compatible monitor - free variable refresh rate for everybody :) But that can work only over straight DisplayPort cable without any HDMI/DVI conversion adapters in middle.

Also I agree with a person who asked are monitor input cable is connected to GPU and not mistaken with video output on motherboard. If new monitor is connected directly to GPU and nothing else was changed, there is no reason to have hiccups in games.

so the problem seems to be that I don't have a displayport cable? I don't have one yet but i'll make sure that I get one tomorrow. I have the hdmi connected to the GPU so it can't be because of that
