I am paying for 150 mbps download speed, but for steam and other services it is capping at around 1.2mbps

when downloading steam games it is extremely slow and goes at about 1.2mbps. While watching task manager is says I am maxing out network with about 10 mbps. I am using ethernet and on my other computer it runs at about 25mbps.

As above please clarify, plenty times theres a mixup between bandwidth conversions.

150mbps = 18.8 MB/s

So 1.2mbps = 146KB/s

Task manger maxed out at 10mbps = 1.25MB/s but only getting 150KB/s roughly, correct?

Your other pc @ 25mbps = 3.125MB/s, even that is lacking.

Have you done a speed test? Speedtest.net

Steam server bandwidth is random so maybe try another server.

Check your ethernet cables also. To reach gigabit, over 10MB/s all 8 wires in the ethernet cable are used. If one wire is slighly bad the speed is knocked to megabit speeds only using 4 wires which is below 10MB/s, to the range of your 2nd pc.

If condition of network cable is pretty bad might explain why your first pc cant reach a Megabyte.

If the router or switch you're using is megabit and gigabit compatible which it should be, often the led colour changes with the connection speed, 1000= green and 10/100 = yellow or orange. Does your router/switch led colour change?

In the back of my PC the ethernet is blinking yellow.

Blinking yellow or amber means theres not a steady connection. Good connection should change to green.

Id say it's the cable, can you test the cable from your other pc?

On the other pc it has the blinking yellow but a green light on the opposite side unlike the current one with only the blinking yellow one and the opposite light is off or not displaying a color.

The hard drive that the other computer had, I transfered to the new build. So no windows to try that.

Not really, I had just upgraded to windows 10 from 8.1.

It is a Gigabyte Gaming B8

Seems either network drivers are clashing or its a bad cable.

If you just transferred the hdd to a different motherboard with a different nic then upgraded to Win10, it's possible Win10 reinstalled the right driver but there still might be a problem. Go to your motherboard's manufacturer's website and download lan driver.

In device manager uninstall network adapter and reinstall with the one you downloaded.

there is 9 different drivers under network adapters, uninstall them all?

Yeah uninstall all then install the one you downloaded then restart comp

I can't find an option to install after I uninstall all and when I try to just update to the new one it says it is already up to date.

It is zipped and when I double click it opens up a bunch of other files.

I just downloaded it myself to have a look. Extract the files to a folder anywhere on the desktop then right click autorun application and run as administrator. That should install the driver on its own.

restarted and now downloading at around 12 MB/s!!
