Question I bought a SAS drive without knowing the difference between Sata and sas. My motherboard only accepts Sata. Can I get an hba or drive holder to fix?

I know SAS won’t connect to Sata Controllers. But I’ve seen some people use HBAs to remedy and others use drive holders to connect USB 3 to mother board. I just don’t know what to get and don’t want to waste anymore money and gotta make this work since the drive isn’t refundable.

If you need more information to help solve the question, list what you need me to post

LSI 9207-8i
8087 min sas

That would allow up to 8 drives
So I won’t have to worry about my Sata controllers not connecting to the Sas, since this has the programming for a Sas and will configure in a way for my motherboard to understand?
Sorry for bad grammar, just not sure how to word it. Also once I install it, is the only thing I have to do is install drivers or will there be programs I gotta download?

You will have to plug the card into a PCI-e slot and connect the cable to the card and one of the four plugs to the drive, you will also have to add sata power to the plug.

Once everything is plugged in boot up the computer and the computer will pick up the drive. i normally dont buy these cards as HBA IT mode but as raid cards so i have to go through pre windows settings to activate the drives. HBA should just pick up the drive once booted into windows.

Awesome, I was freaking out because of how expensive the SAS drive was I bought and I tried to use a Sas to Sata cable hoping it would work.
Thanks, I really appreciate the help

The HBA card you can do sas and sata drives, i would recommend against mixing the two on one cable. But you could run 4 sas drives on one cable and then 4 sata drives on another cable if you ever choose to run 8 drives.
