Hi there,

I installed brand new "WD_BLACK 2TB SN770 NVMe PCIe 4.0 M.2 Internal SSD - WDBBDL0020BNC-WRWM" in a brand new "ORICO M.2 NVMe SATA SSD Enclosure Adapter Tool-Free, USB C 3.2 Gen 2 10Gbps NVMe, 5Gbps NGFF SATA PCIe M-Key(B+M Key) 2230/2242/2260/2280, Aluminum External M2 Reader Support UASP Trim- BK(G2A)". However, when I tried to connect it to the MSI laptop "Katana GF66 11UC", I could hear the beep from Windows 11 Professional, but nothing is showing, and I do not think it was mounted.

Do I need to format the SSD first? Please help. I want to be able to use this new SSD. I also looked into BIOS setting, but nothing would make it works.

Thank you.

Nothing is showing where ? First place to look for is in device manager, it should show at least as unknown. If it's there, next in Disk management where it should show as raw/unformatted or formatted but with no letter assigned to it.

Internal drives will never show up and be ready to use out the box in Windows even when connected with a USB enclosure. External drives are pre-formatted like flash drives and Windows mounts them automatically. Internal drives are not. You have to create a partition and format it.

Here is the image of "Disk Management".
In Disk Management - right-click in black "Unallocated"area,
choose "New simple volume", then
next, next, next, next, finish (you can specify assigned drive letter and volume label there, if you want).

If it asks, to initialize disk, then you can choose either MBR or GPT.
For drives 2TB and smaller this doesn't matter. For larger drives you have to use GPT.
