Hi, I'm having an issue where I want to overclock my 8350.

I start with going into bios, turning off the energy saving options, CoolNquiet and so on. Turning off turbo.

Then i change my cpu voltage manually to say 1.40. And my multiplier so that i come up to say, 4.4Ghz, notice that this is only 200 mhz more than the turbo core, which works fine.. And i save, and quit.

I sometimes get past the bios options screen, and sometimes I'm stuck there, totally. So i have to turn off computer, reset cmos (taking out the battery) and putting it in again. Which makes me go past the bios screen again, with everything reset. And sometimes, i can actually even get inside of windows and mess around some, starting some programs, perhaps Starting a game. And it freezes. Can't do anything but reset or turn off. And then I have to reset my cmos again.

I'm also using rivatuner and hwinfo64 for monitoring, and once the core temp showed like, 50c, and one second later it was up to 97c when it froze. Seems like there might be some issue with the motherboard? I believe there is some coil whine from it also, although my HDD is going bad also and believe it to be making some weird noises. (windows is on my SSD)

It doesn't matter if i put my ram on 1333 or whatever it is, and change the multiplier, and even on around 1.45 cpu voltage, it still crashes..

M5a99fx pro 2.0
Fx 8350 4.0ghz (obviously)
Msi gtx 770 2gb twin frozr.
120gb corsair
Windows 8.1

One thing that comes to mind is well as of now i have a small, what could it be, around 70mm fan behind my motherboard aimed at the socket, as i though my temps were way to high without it (socket temp was around 67-68, not overclocked..) Package was okay as i recall. Now with the fan and my 212 evo, i have around 60 socket temp in BF4. And package around 50 somewhere, not too accurate on the AMDs..

No no I'm sorry I'm not being so clear haha! That's was just an example, and it went from 50C to 97 in an instant, when it froze. Something wrong with the monitoring i suppose, but as it froze, it seems weird, not any way near 100 degrees when i felt on the cooler.. My idle is around 37c socket temp. Package unknown lol.

That sounds about right I've heard of people hitting 5ghz on that board with that chip so really i would check to see how hot the northbridge and VRMs are getting then maybe check and reapply the thermal paste and reseat the cpu if all else fails you may have just struck out with the silicon lottery on that particular chip cause it doesn't really sound like a motherboard issue to me.

Not too sure about how to check the northbridge and VRM temp though.. Also tried to put the multiplier so that i got to 4.2 Ghz, which is same as turbo, and it froze?

Well I have a few more issues. Previously with my older Asus motherboard, I had no issues whatsoever with the sleep mode and such. But after installing this m5a99Fx board I'm having real issues, I turned off the hibernation, because it made my computer restart after waking from sleep. Now, it wakes up from sleep, and freezes for say.. one minute, and then resumes to normal, no matter if i have my Win7 or 8.1 installed. Come to think something is really odd, I've reinstalled 8.1 a few times.

I would love to, still, where I live I get to pay around 30 dollars if they do not find any issues with it. This is from the shop i bought the card. Want to be really sure it is the board that's messing around haha!

Seriously, i changed my multiplier so that i got the cpu speed to 4.2 Ghz, and i ran Prime95, and cores just started crashing on me. This was with cpu voltage at 1.40v. Even the turbo goes this high, and then it's no issue, what's is the problem?
