I've been trying to burn an MP3 CD, I've tried different programs, Cyberlink's Power2Go, Nero, ImgBurn, BurnAware and even Windows Media Player but when the burning process is about to start I get some kind of error.

The first time happened with Power2Go, to dismiss any doubts about a software issue I reinstalled Windows 8, after the clean install I was able to burn two MP3 CDs perfectly, when I was about to burn a third one it didn't work, I used the other programs I already mentioned to see if the problem was about Power2Go but all of the other burning software gave me some kind of error

Normally you'd think this was a hardware issue but I was able to burn two perfectly fine discs before so I don't think that's the case.

This issue has been driving me insane I don't know what to do anymore, I tried all the obvious fixes you find in google, the disable/enable drivers and I tried to update them through Device Manager and manually but there aren't any new updates, I went to delete the infamous UpperFilters/LowerFilters but they weren't in the registry in the first place, I tried the Microsoft FixIt for CD/DVD burning problems, and like I said I already did a clean install of Windows and I wouldn't say any of the updates ever since caused this because I was able to burn the two cds after Windows Update installed all the updates, the errors started coming out of nowhere, I don't think restoring to a previous point would help either since there hasn't been any changes in the system.

What else can I try? What could be causing this?

Hi

Can You Burn DVD's (DVD-r)

you say the problem is with CD's (CD-r?)
what about CD-RW?

Have you removed & replaced laptop DVD drive? as sometimes you get a bad connection which is cured by removing & replacing
(Usually only one screw holding DVD drive in a laptop)

I haven't tried to burn DVDs since the issue started but I was able to last week before this happened, I did try to erase a DVD-RW and I couldn't. And I don't think reseating the drive could fix it since I burned the two discs just fine today, but if I can't find any other solution I could give it a try.

No, I know that copyright infringement can keep you from burning a disc, it's not pirated music, I tried with different types of files and it just doesn't let me.

Okay so I found an old CD-RW and I was able to erase it and then burn the same files I was trying before but after it finished I tried it and my computer wouldn't read it the cd drive just kept making noises, I tried it in a DVD player and it showed the files but it wouldn't play them, I'd blame this on the disc since it was very old but I don't know? The important thing I'd say it's that it did erase and burn so the problem might be only with CD-R.

And just to add the CD-R discs I have are not defective since I've tried many different brands already.

Edit: I also burned an .iso image on a DVD-R and it worked, but I tried burning an .iso image on a CD-R and it gave me the same error. I think it's safe to say it's not a hardware problem since I was able to burn a DVD-R and a CD-RW I'm certain this is a software issue there must be something that doesn't let me burn CD-R.
