I writes a small article about Windows 7 Beta.
I tested the speed difference to Windows Vista with some basic test.

I just today started my blog. I hope even someone is interested :)

I'm not a native speaker of english so there are some errors in my texts.

But errors like "writed" should only occure when I'm very tired or unfocused 😀

Ok, rather than picking out grammar errors (because this forum is full of native English speakers who are far worse), I'll stick to the article. How did you measure the boot time? Did you measure it from power on until the desktop showed? That's what it looks like, but I'd just like to clarify, since I typically measure from the bootloader screen until the desktop shows myself.

Actually, I just did a series of tests myself, just today. Wasn't going to post them, but...

MB, DFI LP UT nf4-sli expert. (939 socket)
CPU, opteron 175
RAM, 4 GB Kingston ddr.

Post takes 27:7ish seconds.

Drives: Vista, 300GB raptor.
XP, 320GB seagate
Win 7, 320 GB seagate.

So not quite an apples / apples comparison, but pretty close.

XP, after post to Skype sound, 2:59:30ish
Vista, 1:40ish
Win7, all over the place...
1:06, 1:25, :51 and :54. If I throw out the 1:25, average is :57.

I've been thinking how to measure 'work times'. Maybe open up an office doc? A game? Anything web-related is too variable. Maybe fo a re-calc on a spreadsheet? Or compress (zip) a copy of a large folder? Can't be codec related, as again too variable.

Oh well, open to suggestions. As to OP, keep up the work. Ignore the grammer nazis...

In the boot time test I started the stopwatch when I switched my computer on and I stopped
the stopwatch when the desktop showed.

And I ran the tests before installing any virus detect softwares or anything else that would disturb the tests.
