Hi there.

I was playing a game some days ago and all of a sudden my PC froze up and it started to smell like something just burned. I turned my PC off, took a look inside, and didn't see anything at first sight.

I started it back up, but I didn't get a picture, my monitor remained black. I changed the monitor, but it stayed black, so the monitor is ok.

I changed the graphics card, but I still didn't get a picture, so that's not the problem either.

So I guess it's either the CPU or my motherboard. Does anyone have experience with this?

My PC starts up as always, judging from the sounds it makes, I just don't get a picture. Would my PC even start up if the CPU were fried?

Thx for any help.

Probably your motherboard. Try a different type of card, e.g. if you have an AGP card use a PCI card. Just a thought :)

What are your specs and do you hear any beeping when it starts up other than the normal tone?

I just tested the CPU in my brothers PC and it works, so it definatley is the motherboard. I don't recall any beeping sounds when starting up, though.

I don't think I have a PCI card.

I'll just bring in the motherboard on Monday, I have a two year warranty, so there shouldn't be a problem. :)
