I dont get the results HELP!

ok here goes

2x 7850 2gb got a score of
FPS 66.3
Score 1671
Min fps 8.7
High fps 131.1

this was on a i7 950 @ 3.07 Ghz with 6gb ddr3

Next one

1 R9 280x 3gb
FPS 59.4
Score 1478
Min fps 4.8
High fps 127.3

this was on a Amd FX 6300 6 core @ 3.5 ghz with 8 gb DDR3

all was on Ultra

Why and how can this be??

That is a very old, first gen i7.
The 280x is ~on par with a 770, and single 7850 is ~58% of a 770. So two in Xfire (Scaling ~60-80%) means they are similar, if a little worse.

Are the 2 7850's getting bottlenecked by the i7 950?

You're right, after lookkng at the performance difference between a 7850 and a 280x http://www.anandtech.com/bench/product/1076?vs=1041 I would say that looks about right, I would think heaven would scale better then most games with cf.

What do you have tessellation and AA set at?

In that specific situation yes, the 7850 Xfire is better.
However, in games that do no support it, or support it fully, they wont be better.

2 cards are usually better than 1 card if the game or software is optimized. Since you are running a benchmark 2 cards will easily beat 1 card. In real world the 280x will be better because of the vram and not all games perform well with multiple gpu systems. Also the i7 is stronger than the 6300
