Lately I've been overclocking my CPU and I'm aware that doing so will make my CPU hotter. I currently have an AMD Athlon II X2 220 2.8GHz Dual-core CPU and I currently have a Coolermaster Hyper TX3 CPU Cooler which is more than sufficient to cool my CPU. However I have an ASRock 970M Pro3 motherboard, which comes with an interesting BIOS. Under the fans setting if I put my CPU fan on auto it runs the fan on full blast even when the PC is idle. Thusly I have it set on manual which allows me to choose the fan speed on a scale of 1-10. It also lets me set a target temperature which I put it on 50C. When not overclocked I run it on 5 just to be safe, when overclocked to 3.2 GHz I ran it on 7. Lately I've had it overclocked to 3.35 GHz and the fan on 8, which is pretty loud. My concern is no matter how much i overclock it or how CPU intensive a game I play the fan speed never varies. I'm not sure if that means the BIOS doesn't pay attention to target temperature on manual or if my cooler is powerful enough to be lowered as the number 8 setting is rather loud.
