I found this on Facebook Marketplace someone listing an EVGA 3090 FTW3 used for 1,000 CAD (735.25 USD) and was wondering if:

A) if it was legit/good resale price for what info is given, and

B) how to go about the right questions to ask and so on of the seller, make sure it fully works etc.

I just want to make sure everything is as safe as possible for longevity. I have a link to screenshots of the listing here. Identifying information should all be removed from the main screenshot.
Hopefully that hyperlink worked, it is for Imgur where I posted screenshots of all of the post including photos provided by seller. The card has been used previously for mining for a year as said by the seller in this cards past.

Currently using a GTX 980 and a Ryzen 7 3700x with an RM750 Corsair power supply. Currently feel some struggle when it comes to playing certain games I wish I could play fine. It would be very helpful if this was a legit and/or safe sale that also didn’t prove to be a bad one if I went through with it. Would also be nice to know for sure that . Part picker with estimated wattage looks like the power supply should be fine but would like to make sure by asking.

Added question about an alternative option, that being that the 4070ti new is similar in price. I have seen stats on it being better in performance, but I also could have some less-often use case of the extra vram with the 3090. Any input on that would be nice, but not needed necessarily!

buying used gpu with testing before buying process is less risky.
im buying nd using different gpu s for some years and usually it,s ok bc gpu s life span are long. but becarefull\the advantage is paying much less money

That would be the plan, to ask to test it before buying that is for sure. Is there any specifics I should look out for just to be sure?

Also while not mentioned in post, there is the option buying a new 4070ti for a similar price which afaik is better in performance but I also have some use case at times where I could possibly need that extra vram of the 3090 but definitely not all day everyday. Do you have input on what would be better there?

when testing listen exactly to fan noise.it should be moderate not high and soaring.
benchmark in superposition app and compare the score. test in a demanding game like far cry 6 (if possible)
BTW tell me youe exact build config

I will keep that in mind.
Oh okay I will get that, I just found that not long ago as a benchmarking tool earlier tonight.
I unfortunately don't have Far Cry 6 specifically or similar high demand titles purchases, but I do have Game Pass Ultimate so if there is a particular game on there that you would recommend for testing performance (and for fun!) I would appreciate it.

Motherboard: Asus Prime X570-P
CPU: Ryzen 7 3700X
GPU: Gigabyte GTX 980 WindForce
RAM: Corsair 2x8GB of DDR4-2133
Power Supply: Corsair RM750 (bought in 2014, noting that since I know future models have the same name)
Plus other 2 SATA SSDs (256GB and 1TB) and 1 hard drive (1TB), but that feels less relevant. There are things I can change with time, but that is all as-is for right now.

in game pass you can download sniper elite 5 or forza 5
can you send me the link of that shop (which tou saw the deal)?
i suggest you to upgrade your cpu too.easily buy an r9-3900x and mobo is ok.if i were i would do this immediately to avoid bottleneck and performance boost
but personally i love intel cpu s

Oh okay will do on the game choices, will go check them out in a moment.
It was on Facebook Marketplace, and I am unsure how revealing of personal location that would be.
I wouldn't be able to upgrade the CPU right away, but that could come at a not-so-far later date when it is possible. I know you mention the R9 3900x, but what about the R7 5800X3D? Since that has the increased gaming benefit of the X3D series L3 cache. Feels like either has merits for being better under different conditions, but I wanted some extra input.
I understand loving intel cpus, I moved away from them purely on the basis of cost + local shop I go to pretty much doesn't sell intel anymore.

if your mobo accepts it ok .go for it
but r9 is the latter gen. and worth more.i talk about recency
far cry 6 is my favorite game bc its benchmark is so fantastic for gpu testing.
mine is rtx 3070 and i satisfy from it when benchmarking.
u also can download superposition app and benchmark there and share your score with me to guide u.
you mean intel cpu s are more expensive in your local shops?

It seems the r7 5800X3d came out in early 2022 while the r9 3900x came out in late 2019, with the X3D being one of the last CPUs released for the AM4 socket on the motherboard.
r7 5800X3D seems to have potential to give quite the FPS boost over the R9 3900x depending on the game. I would lose some non-gaming workload performance but that is a fair tradeoff. Only issue is I would have to get an appropriate cooler for it immediately while the r9 3900x has one included in-box.
If only it wasn't full price currently, it is a game I would likely play.
oh nice!
You mean like if/when I get the chance to test the 3090 to share score in superposition?
Probably, but generally for those who aren't going to top-end gaming machines AMD was solidly cheaper when Ryzen came along. Plus shipping costs to get stuff here. I know the shop had an Intel partnership before, but since then they told me they usually only order a small selection of Intel since the only people who buy them are those who specifically only want Intel.

oh you are right. why r9 is 2 years before r7-xd?
i didnt know that.
superposition benchmarking is game-based bench.
if i know your score i can guide you.
when your hands reaches to that card?

That is a good card, the price is fair.
If you know the seller, and trust them, then negotiate the price.

But you are at the mercy of the seller if something is wrong.

Looking on ebay for the same card, and filtering on completed auctions, they sell for $750 or so.
The good thing about Ebay is that they protect buyers.
If the seller says the card is in good working condition and you found it faulty then you can return the card and get your money back.

The card is a highly factory overclocked version and requires three 8 pin psu connectors.
In theory,750w will do. with a high quality psu like yours, I think you would be ok.
But 3000 series cards can have high psu demand peaks on occasion. I would be prepared to go to 850w/950w if it becomes necessary.

4070ti new would be a comparable performer, but it costs a bit more and you would also have to pay sales tax.

That's because AMD CPUs use the R# designation as a performance/segment indicator. The first digit in the actual CPU (3900X, 5800X3D) tells you the generation.

The 5800X3D is the best gaming cpu available for the AM4 platform.

That card looks like a good deal, but not good enough where it looks like a scam. I've had good experience with used GPUs. Running any moderately aggressive game is usually enough to flush out any issues, alongside a benchmark like Occt or superposition

I would NOT spend $1,000 on a used video card even if it were an RTX 4090. If I'm spending that kind of money on a card, it had better have a warranty!

I know that there's no tax involved but even with having to pay HST, I would still take this over the 3090 just for the warranty:
XFX Radeon RX 6950 XT 16GB - $839 at Canada Computers (less than $1,000 with tax!)

What if you get the 3090 and it dies 9 months from now? You'll be out $1,000 and there's nothing you can do about it. However, with the RX 6950 XT, your money is protected for three years. It's not like there's a big difference in performance because the RTX 3090 is only 2% faster on average (which means it's the same because that's within the margin of error).

My recommendation is definitely to pass on that RTX 3090 because there's no point in buying a used card that costs more than a new card with the same performance. That's just dumb.
