Can it be done for $1500-1600 (newegg).
I would do it myself, but this is my first build so I don't have any experience to differentiate between a *** product and a good one.

GTX 280
Intel Core i7 920
6GB DDR3
1TB SATAII 7200RPM
Power Supply 750W
18X DVD+/-R/RW
Intel X58 motherboard
and a decent case

The gtx 280 is being phased out. This gtx 275 is fairly new to the market and it's a killer card. Also with your budget you can tack on another one of those gtx 275's and run them in SLI and still be under your budget. The case used in this build is a full tower, has great cooling/airflow/ventilation and plenty of room to work with...especially for dual vid cards.

Trust me, 3gb of RAM is fine, and extending your budget ~100$ is definitely worth it.
