• Happy holidays, folks! Thanks to each and every one of you for being part of the Tom's Hardware community!

[SOLVED] I got a BSOD out of the blue; I wasn't doing anything unusual or strenuous to the PC; Did install new hardware yesterday.

I installed an ASUS PCE-AC55BT Dual band wireless adapter in my computer yesterday, but otherwise there have been no recent changes to my computer's hardware or software. I did install its most recent drivers from ASUS' website (not the ones from the provided disk).
When the crash happened, I was downloading a album cover photo from Firefox to put onto a blank iTunes album.

My specs:
OS: Windows 10 Home 64-Bit (Ver. 1903, Build 18362.295)
CPU: Intel i7 7700K
Motherboard: ASUS Z270-A; BIOS Ver. 1302
GPU: Nvidia GeForce 1060 6GB
RAM: 8192 MBs

Memory dump files (looks like I've had multiple crashes): https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1xn4M7KCh8wSP3zjFPN5dXZWFNfMOdAuD?usp=sharing

I really appreciate any help! Thank you.

Edit: Just had another BSOD. Same error as last time.

Edit: Uninstalled and reinstalled my WiFi card's WiFi drivers (it has Bluetooth drivers too). I haven't had a crash so far. Will update this post if that is the solution.

Edit: Two more crashes. The driver's didn't help. Updated the memory dump link to include the two new crashes.

Edit: Did a memory test--no issues found.

BIOS info was not included in the 1st dump file. This can sometimes mean an outdated BIOS is being used.

This information can be used by others to help you. I can't help you with this. Someone else will post with more information. Please wait for additional answers. Good luck.

its got an intel chip inside it - https://wikidevi.com/wiki/ASUS_PCE-AC55BT

here are the latest Intel drivers - https://downloadcenter.intel.com/product/75439/Intel-Dual-Band-Wireless-AC-7260

Try those, they a lot more up to date than the Asus site

No, I am not following you, I thought name did seem vaguely familiar though. I am glad that other thing seems semi fixed? :)

I have sent link of errors to Gardenman in case it is not caused by the new card you installed yesterday.

Okay, so! I installed those new drivers (shame ASUS doesn't keep their driver page updated for products they still sell!) and I will leave my computer running overnight to see if it crashes like it had before.
How did you find those drivers? That page listed driver support for a different product, but I assume the same chip.
If my crashes all point to the same outdated driver, that has to be a good sign then that this updated one will be a likely fix, right? What I don't understand is why that driver which turned up the error is dated from 2018... the ones I installed from ASUS were from 2016. Did Windows install a different driver through Windows update or something of the sort?

I thought I recognized your icon. Thanks for the suggestion in the other post of mine! With my luck you'll be seeing me around for a while. We will probably get to become well-acquainted neighbors in this little forum community here.

Also, I found this post in a Lenovo forum on someone facing the same issue as me. Maybe it will provide some ideas if my crashes keep occurring.

Thank you, very much appreciated!! I made sure I have the most recent BIOS before posting here so it's not that.

How did you find those drivers?

I have in the past found that 1st wiki link useful to find the underlying chips in wireless adapters, as most of them either have intel or Realtek chips inside, and I wanted to know which.
it showed me
This Asus product is a PCIe to Mini PCIe adapter for an

So i then searched for intel AC 7260 drivers and found the link I gave you

the newest on WIndows Update Catalog is from 2016 as well - https://www.catalog.update.microsoft.com/Search.aspx?q=AC 7260 so where did your 2018 driver come from?

it is likely gone now so we shall never know?

Well that is good to know! I will bookmark that site to find driver information in the future. I love coming to this forum, I learn a lot about computer components!

I left the computer running all night and did not have any crashes to speak of, so for now, it seems that those new drivers have fixed the crashing. I'll wait a few days before coming back and marking the solution in case I get the crashes again. It is such a relief to likely have this behind me. Darn drivers always causing issues.

Thank you for the help on this! I am so happy to have learned of Tom's Hardware all those years ago. :)

Generally I don't want posts to go for more than a month so hopefully this will be fixed way before the time period it took your other one

Given every bsod mentioned that driver, and I assume you weren't getting the BSOD before you installed the hardware, there is a really good chance it was the drivers.

I don't want to jinx us :)

I'm going to say it's fixed now! It's been almost 48 hours and I haven't had a single crash. Now, in the future, how can I make sure all my drivers are current? I would have never thought to look up the Intel chip on an ASUS product.
