Hi there folks.

I have a DELL XPS L702X with the i7-2760QM board / chip. Windows Home Premium installed (16GB) limit I believe. Currently has 6GB installed, a $ + 2 GB chips. I want to upgrade RAM to 16 GB or maybe 32GB, what RAM should I use?

I see on the ARK site that this setup will take 32GB (main reason I bought the machine) but when I got to CRUCIAL.COM is recommends that the laptop only takes 8GB. How do I install 16GB? What type of RAM do I specifically need? I plan on upgrading to one 16GB chip, then another when needed.

I read the manual here: ftp://ftp.dell.com/Manuals/all-products/esuprt_laptop/esuprt_xps_laptop/xps-l702x_service%20manual_en-us.pdf , and it mentions support for up to four sticks. Quite a surprise for a laptop.

Don't put in one stick. It's a dual-channel setup; you will seriously degrade your memory speed if you don't put in matching sticks one per channel (see the manual for which slots should be paired).

So you can put in four 4GB sticks or two 8GB sticks. I'd recommend 2 8GB sticks, so that if you want to add more (and your OS will support it, what version do you have? "Home Professional" isn't a version, it's two different versions) you can add two more 8GB sticks.

I'm wrong, bignastyid is right, the manual states that it...
According to Dell the system supports a max of 16Gb(2x8Gb) sticks of ddr3 1333(ftp://ftp.dell.com/Manuals/all-products/esuprt_laptop/esuprt_xps_laptop/xps-l702x_setup%20guide_en-us.pdf). Where are you finding 16Gb sticks I wasn't aware any 16Gb so-dimms even existed. For 32Gb you'd need a laptop with 4 slots(usually only found on workstation class laptops).

You do NOT have a 16GB limit. There are two versions of the L702x: 2 memory slots and 4 memory slots. Only the 4 slots version can accept 16GB using the 4 + 4 + 4 + 4 configuration. Crucial's scanner suggests that you have the 2 slot version and you're limited to using 4 + 4. I have the same system and the best way to check is to take the backplate off and check for yourself.

The most you can do is install a pair of matched 4GB sticks into the 2 slots for a total of 8GB in dual channel configuration.
