I have a seagate SATA 7200.8 1.5GB/s?

now for a gaming machine, would it be wise of me to buy a 3.0GB/s HDD?

I have heard a lot of stuff, like, "no drive can transfer that fast anyway with a single drive set up."

The newer drives, which are generally faster, use 3GB/sec., but that's not the limiting factor.

Check the 3.5" Hard Drive Charts to see whether upgrading is worth the money.

Agreed. While the 1.5GB/sec. transfer isn't the limiting factor, most if not all newer hdd's use 3.0GB/sec. What's the drive model?

I believe all of the 7200s are Barracudas. Did you check the charts that I linked?

In answer to your question, yes there are a lot of faster drives available. How much money you got?

By the way, I don't like the way the interface has been modified. You used to be able to highlight up to two drives and step through the charts. Either I'm missing something or that's not possible anymore.

1.5GB/S is the limit of SATA while 3.0GB/S is the limit of SATA 2. In practical the major bottle necks of Harddrive are density of single disc, RPM and Cache etc instead of the SATA1 or SATA 2 interface. I have 7200.11 500GB which with average transfer rate 93MB/S and one of my old 7200.9 320GB only with 54MB/S and all of them are SATA 2 interface. If you have 7200.8 harddrive, it may just with average transfer rate around 45MB/S which is really too low for gaming now.
