I have no audio because my computer is a "local" computer? how do i get sound back?

Just as the question states. i have no sound. I have gone to the Windows Audio Properties and tried to fix it there, but each time I click start is says "Windows could not start the Windows Audio service on Local Computer. Error 1068: The dependency service or group failed to start". I have no idea what that means and would really like some help. The type of computer I have is a Vostro 2510 Dell with Windows 7.
