I have to pick bad audio or have audio playing through two devices??

Really confused as to what is going on with my computers audio right now. When i have AC97 selected the audio is clear through my headset but doesnt allow me to switch between which device is playing the audio, i have "mute the rear output device, when a front headphone is plugged in, yet it doesnt do that the audio plays through both. If i have HD Audio selected the audio through my headset crackles and it gives me a headache after a minute of having my headset on. However it then swaps between which device is playing the audio. Also selecting "Tie up same type of input jack" doesnt do anything either. Its like i cant win does anyone know why this is happening please? its frustrating me now

Have you "right licked" your volume near the clock, play back devices?
Maybe something in there you can also change... Just a thought

no because the headset doesnt show up as an option there, just speakers so i think it just all ties into one option as they are both plugged into the motherboard. Thanks for the suggestion though
