I installed Windows 7 at that time i was not having space n local disk c that's why i installed it in Local Disc D now i want that the windows 7 will be default and i want to format the drive containing windows xp but when i try it says that 'CAN'T FORMAT A PARTITION CONTAINING SYSTEM FILES'

use a linux live cd, such as ubuntu, when booting into it live you can use a tool called Gparted (you may have to download it) to format the partition that you want. if the MBR becomes damaged then you can use a windows 7 installation disk to repair your installed windows 7
