I just bought the MSI 770t AM2/AM2+ motherboard from newegg with the intentions of installing an amd phenom II x4 955 black edition (deneb) which is an am3 processor.

the mobo box says am3 cpu ready, and supports DDR2 memory, both of which are good for me. i have heard some people say that the motherboard is kind of picky about which phenom II you put on it, and that the 955 black deneb has about a 50/50 chance of working.

does anybody know if this is true? i have already received the motherboard, and will be ordering the processor later this week, along with a new case.

My build specs:
AMD Phenom II x4 955 Black Edition 3.2ghz
2GB DDR2 800MHz Crucial
MSI 770t-c35 AM2+ motherboard
Diablotek 750w PSU
ASUS Nvidia GTX460 768MB
Antec 300 Illusion Black Case
250GB HDD + 500GB HDD both 7200rpm

look good? i plan on buying some more ram in a month or so, and upgrading to win7 for DX11 support.

I can't find anything that says what the TDP of the mobo is.Without knowing the TDP of the mobo it' possible that the 955 won't work.I'm assuming that the mobo only supports the lower wattage Phenom ii chips like the dual cores at 95watts.The 955 is 125watts so it won't work.Try looking in your manual and see if you can find what the max TDP is.If you can't find it or it's under 125watts i suggest returning your mobo and getting this one...

In that mobo it supports DDR2 RAM and fully supports the 125watt Phenom ii chips.Which means you can still get the 955.
