I'm thinking of an up grade for my main rig to gtx 960 but question is about my second rig witch at this minute has a phenom ii x2 3.4ghz and a geforce 7950 GT wat I want to know is if I do upgrade would I see any benefit from putting my radeon 7790 2g oC in this rig or would the bottleneck be so bad ID be better leaving it as it is

Solution

+1 i did not see he said he had a 7790
You shouold keep that and get a new CPU then you can run modern games at 60 fps 1080p on medium settings
when you have a low spec machine like that it is generally just time for a new mobo CPU and RAM
what are your full specs.
For the price of a gtx 960 you can get a skylake i3 motherboard and ddr4 RAM.
If you used integrated that would be MUCH better than the 7950 GT

You will see improvements with the 7790 regardless of the phenom.

The gtx 960 is for my rig the rig in question is mainly my 6 year old that plays n tbh he happy as it is just if I'm getting new graphics card i was just thinking he may benefit from my old one the full spec for rig thinking of putting HD 7790 in is 4gb DDR 3 M4N68T-MlEV2 motherboard 500gb hard drive n 700w PSU is my old rig the only question I was asking was is it worth putting the HD 7790 in this rig or should I just leave rig as it is know chip set is really out of date n would definitely have went Intel if I had had the cash at The time

Probably will there are few CPUs in am3 chip set that can run better games but perhaps for his birthday or something he has ps4 n only really uses PC for amazing frog n moded mine craft few other wee games he plays but I'd rather he moved to PC involves bit more intelligence in would serve him well in this day n age
