Hi, I installed a new game for my son last night, Test Drive 6, and it won't run, it just comes up with a Window saying that it needs a 3D card.

I currently have a Chaintech Zenith 7NJS EZ Motherboard and my graphics card is a GeForce 440 (or something like that, I'm at work now) ... I've checked their web site and they say the board has an 8x VGA port ... I've upgraded many times in the past, but have never had a 3D card ... can anybody tell me what I should be looking for that will work with this M/B ?!?

Thanks in advance ...

Virtually all new graphics cards these days these days would qualify to be '3d cards' - even your present Geforce card.

It should actually run. It's probably being stupid and doesn't realise you WAY surpass the minimum specs. See if there's a patch for it perhaps.

Thanks ChipDeath, it's the obvious place to start ... I installed it at about midnight last night (after a few beers) & am going away at 6 tomorrow morning after promising it would be up and running ... I'm not thinking straight at all !!!

Go to www.nvidia.com and download the latest drivers for your video card. Make sure you've already installed all the drivers for the motherboard first.

Windows default (built-in) drivers don't always work properly.

Hi Crashman, I'm home now and have just done exactly that, but it made no difference. I ran DxDiag to check which version of DirectX I'm using, as it needs version 7 and I was sure that I was on version 9 and lo and behold, there was a little message telling me that Direct3D wouldn't run as I had NetMeeting running. I stopped that, took it out of my startup & re-booted ... voila, perfect !!!

Thanks for your help everybody ...
