I Need P4 Tweaks

LUCKY FOR THE P4 IT HAS SUCH HIGH BANDWIDTH FOR WITHOUT IT INTEL'S OWN CELERON WOULD OUTPERFORM IT. BWAAAHAHAHAHA

I don't really understand you post Connie. Of course it would be outperformed by a celeron...but then again, so would the fastest processor in the world!!! What do you think is faster - (1)a p4 1.5Ghz with 10mb/s bandwith, (2)a 1.2Ghz. Athlon with 10mb/s bandwith, or (3)a 600Mhz celeron with 1 gb/s bandwith. Although those numbers are theoretical, it goes to show you that of course bandwith makes a difference and that is why someone might want to buy it. Usually, we buy faster and better components and systems. Oh well that was sort of a flame, but what are u gonna do?

The P4 has gobs of bandwidth, much more than the Athlon, yet the Athlon outperforms it in almost everything. Clearly bandwidth alone does not make a good platform.

Would you some other examples of non x86 processors that don't have nearly the P4's bandwidth but completely outperform it?

Take DDR-SDRAM away from the Athlon and mate it with SDRAM and you still have a strong platform, capable of outperforming the P4. Take RDRAM away from the P4 and mate it with SDRAM, which Brookdale will, and you'll have a processor that has *NOTHING* going for it.

If all the p4 has going for it is RDRAM, but it helps a lot, then who in their right mind would take it away???? When you look at a computer, you must look at the whole system rather than one component.

Correct! So if you look at the whole system, what do you see? Is the P4 a strong performer across the board? No!

Apparently Intel. Looks like they're willing to sacrifice the only thing the P4 has going for it to reduce costs. RDRAM is one of the reasons P4 systems are so expensive.
