I need some help

Hello.

I have a terrible graphics card (Radeon HD 4200) and I'm looking to upgrade mine.

The first thing that I need to know is; will this card install into the motherboard?


And I have a few more questions.
I asked someone about it, and they said that I won't have enough power supply. Then, they gave me a link for a new power supply: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817170012

If I need a new power supply, what are some other ones that are recommended and cheap?

My goal is to be able to run games smoothly.

Which graphics card is technically better? I'm sure it depends on what I'm doing, and that would be gaming. Should I get GDDR5 or the 2GB memory one?

You will definately need a new(and more powerful) PSU, at least 400 Watts from a good brand(Corsair, Seasonic, XFX, PCP&C, Antec). A good rule of thumb: expect to pay around 10 cents per watt for a good PSU anything less(unless on sale) only gets you junk.

What resolution will you be using to game? for 1920x1080 (or lower) go with the GDDR5, for higher resolutions the 2 gb extra memory would be more useful than GDDR5.

My resolution can only go to 1680x1050.

I don't think that you would notice that much of a difference at that resolution. Its just that at that resolution, you wouldn't be using(or needing) 2 GB of Vram. If you anticipate getting a higher resolution monitor, then you might want to get the 2 GB card, just for future use. Are the cards the same price? If not, then I would say go with the less expensive one.

for 1080p resolutions you don't need more than 1gb of v ram...1gb of gddr 5 ram is more than enough.

if you plan to upgrade to higher resolutions only then does going for the 2gb version makes sence.
