Rght now I have 840 EVO 120GB.

I want a better SSD and good storage, I want 500GB

Choose MX300 / BX300 / 850 EVO?

BX300 and MX are cheaper and good enough? I want good performance and better than my current drive.

or maybe wait to 860 EVO?

or maybe buy NVME drive with external adapter to motherboard?

Well...the 840 EVO is long discontinued.
As said, IMHO MLC vs TLC is irrelevant in the consumer space.
You can read long and hard on "3D" and different alignment of electrons, and which color of powdered unicorn horn is better.
They are both about the same "speed" in the SATA interface.
I love the MX300 and basically anything Samsung touches as far as SSDs goes turns into gold.

I would get an 850 EVO for max value. Right now, the difference between NVMe and regular SATA SSDs is pretty minimal and it really only shows in benchmarks. You can't go wrong with the MX300 either.

Yeah, BX is slightly better than MX but it's usually a little more expensive on most vendors. If they're of similar price then BX is the better choice.

Still, 850 Evo is the fastest of them.
