I want to game. Can 400$ help me?

Nov 15, 2012
Hi all.
I have $400 bucks to get me some upgrades. I'm thinking Ill wait until thanksgiving is over to buy. I already own a monitor, that runs 1024x764. I have 550 watt PSU. a case, dvd drive, and Win 7 64bit.

I'm looking to play games like STALKER. Witcher2 and, skyrim. I have a few other games that are at least 1-2 years old I haven't played yet so I'm not looking too much into future games with this machine.

I want to get a cpu, mobo, memory, HDD(500gb is more than enough for me), and graphics card. I don't need max settings, just smooth game play and pretty good graphics. I've had 2 AMD machines and they have been very good to me, but I have no preferences.

Ive been researching for about a week now and is lot to learn. There's so many options out there its overwhelming. So if you had the parts I already have and 400 bucks to play games. What would you buy? Thanks everyone for the much needed advice.

Wow, down to the last nickel!

CPU: AMD FX-6300 3.5GHz 6-Core Processor ($129.99 @ NCIX US)
Motherboard: ASRock 970DE3/U3S3 ATX AM3+ Motherboard ($69.99 @ Amazon)
Memory: Kingston Blu 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory ($29.99 @ Newegg)
Storage: Western Digital Caviar Blue 500GB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive ($54.99 @ Microcenter)
Video Card: Sapphire Radeon HD 7770 1GB Video Card ($114.99 @ Newegg)
Total: $399.95

And it's only going to be using about 250-300W, so even if it is a cheap PSU, it can handle that no prob. I wouldn't be worried.
