Hey, never OCed anything before but interested. I heard of programs but most say it's best to go in bios.. I dont know which way to go and or how to get there, the most i know is u gotta change volt+ in bios but yea.

I'd like to at least OC my CPU, but as long as it wouldnt burn anything else out it would be nice to OC other stuff too.

here is my system stuff

thanks

ummm? nothing? heatsink that came with it and a few fans :-(

should i get one?

edit: to go into why I would like to OC, Well my buddy told me its a good CPU for the price and it looked like it and i been playing BF3 beta and other games and the BF3 better uses up a crap load of my CPU sometimes with ts3 and such it froms from 75-100% I just want to be able to multi task when playing without it maxing out at 100%

Should I just take the resale loss and but a better CPU? if so what? but if i can easly OC it to fit my needs without spendin a but load then id like to

Keep in mind 2 big things kill CPU's and computer components while overclocking. Heat and Voltage. When you increase the voltage you also generally increase the heat it generates, so we use aftermarket coolers to keep the thing cool to give us a bit more leeway.

Figure I mention that since back in the day when I overclocked my CPU/GPU I didn't see this mentioned much and I think it's important to remember. Also keep in mind how the air flows in your case, intake/exhaust and keep in mind heat rises, I recomend a quick read up on those things so you know how to properly manage the heat your computer is putting out in case you run into any issues.

I would also recommend doing a lot of research on overclocking guides, google helps a lot. I mention this because it is a lot easier to get the most out of your system when you understand what you are doing than having to rely on someones advice or 1 linked guide/instructions. It's quite boring to do I will admit, but it is well worth it in the end in my opinion.

Lastly keep track of your stock settings and have a backup plan on how to revert things if something goes wrong. And stress test everything it will save you a huge headache down the road if something goes wrong. Keep track of the heat too, put the most stress you can on your system for testing the heat in my opinion. For me that meant stress testing the CPU/GPU after I had them both stable to put out the most heat and I kept an eye on it till the temp stopped rising and made sure it was in a good temperature range.

Just a bit of advice, hope it's helpful.

Hyper 212+? Well i checked my box of parts and i had a big butt heatsick/fan that was the same size and was basically the same other the it didnt have copper, does the copper matter that much?

it just says thermalright,

also thanks for the tips, i did already write down the stock settings, i went over something about OCing about a month ago and took a few notes but dropped the idea till I learned that BF3 was a big fat CPU eater

do they have these so called guides on tape? all that reading hurts XD and or any tips on where i can find a good one and dont get stuck reading something useless for hrs?

ummm quick question, would OCing my cpu even give it enough power to run Battlefield 3 that much better or should i just try to sell this one and upgrade to a better CPU?

When I run BF3 it uses 60-80% just for BF3, sometimes going a bit biter. I also like to use teamspeak and maybe record when i play. but with just the normal stuff running my system uses 75-95% maxing out at a 100 a good bit of the time.

I needed I wouldnt mind selling this my or at least trying and then buying a 6core. i just need tips from the pros, (you guys)

ummm i dont think this one will work. the MB screw areas are rectangle and i had to use a handle thing to lock it on. and the cooler i sent a pic of is more square.

idk i suck at these things

any word on my qick question ( no tot overload yall)

Edit:

here are pics of the inside of my pc

pic 2 http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/683/1004112038.jpg/

pic 4 http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/692/1004112034.jpg/

Pic 4 is to give an idea of size with the cooler in there

But i still need an idea if OCing will really help that much?

Will i need a diff cooler?

risk of OCing + cost of new cooler vs upgrading to a x6 cpu?

Can my motherboard handle some of the better CPUs not posted?

so putting all the questions together what i really want to know is what path should i take to make sure my CPU isn't maxing out when i play Battlefield 3.

Also, when u say something like wait for the bulldozer what normally goes down?

are you saying it because the CPU's my MB can handle will go down in cost?
or something like they might make a newer BD CPU that would work with my MB?

or idk I am not a tech person :-(

Bulldozer in the next AMD generation CPUs planed for release soon (less than a week), i'm not sure if your mobo support those new CPUs but is a good idea wait until release, if your mobo don't support it the current Phenom II line will low price a little more.

Me again.. Ive just been wondering how long does it normally take for everything to take effect, meaning will my MB can support it( which I doubt mine will support) and or price drops?

eh Ive never been a techy but been trying to update myself as much as I can.

Eh i talked to a friend and he can use my cpu if i change up and order a new one. so given I make my move soon as far as getting a new CPU or OCing for now, I still am trying to see which CPU i should go with

some say because no games use more then 4 cores then i dont need a 6 core, but if i had a 6 core would that leave the other 2 cores to help run my other programs such as fraps, teamspeak and other programs like that?

Damn me not knowing. I wish i had all the answers for myself so i didnt have to bug yall with being a dumbhead

You are a lucky guy. Here is the CPU support list for your mobo: http://www.msi.com/product/mb/760GM-P33.html#/?div=CPUSupport

And support any current CPU until the Phenom II X6 1055T 95W.

1- The new CPUs (Bulldozer) aren't supported for your mobo, so, while the latest one aren't supported you can go with the previous generations for a good price.
2- What are your need? You can go with a Phenom II X4 955 that's an excellent CPU for a good price
3- Programs won't works in that way, while you have a six core CPU the load of the CPU will be the same in all cores, in other words, the CPU load will be distributed in all cores.
4- Don't worry, we are here for help you.

Hey , i checked the buyers motherboard cpu support and the x4 840 isnt listed...

now it goes from the 820 to the 850, that would lead me to believe the 840 isnt supported? but even if it's not listed can it be used? i'd think not but then again what do i know.

http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/AMD_AM3/M4N68TM_V2/#CPUS

hisMB ^

kinda like my MB list, it skips CPU that are almost the same, what would the reason be?

Edit( oh he tho we could use it, me check i am unsure because it's not listed)

Edit: money aside which one out of the listed would be the best for me, the ones listed are all cheap, id pay $20 more if it made a big diff. unless thats all i really need.

Shopping around today, does Black Edition matter? I was lookin at a listing for AMD Phenom II X4 955 Black Edition and i wasnt sure.

if it doesnt matter good, but what changes from the normal one to black edition?

Thanks, I am gonna try to order something tonight so thanks and if u know any good places to get one let me know 🙂

edit questiong:

does it have to have an x, like x955.. this is all i could find on newegg

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103808

thanks i just ordered from newegg. thanks for clearing up the Black part, i knew what the x before the 2,3,4,6 meant. ive just seen it after the x4, like this x4 x955. wasnt sure.. but one thing i am sure of is how to install them right, so u wont be bugged from me about that XD

Saint 19= Best tech support ive ever had.
