I want to upgrade windows xp to 7 or 8 but which one to buy?

One of my computers is still running on windows xp but I want to upgrade it to 7 or 8 now that it's no longer supported. However, I'm not sure which product is the right one, is it this?

Make sure you're getting the 64-bit version of Windows 7 if your system has at least 4 GB of RAM.

I recommend that you download the windows 7 upgrade advisor. It will check your hardware and software compatibility. Most times you will just need updated hardware drivers.

It all depends on the hardware. Most older legacy CPUs will not have the required instruction sets needed to run Windows 7 or 8. If the upgrade advisor passes, then you should be good albeit the fact that you need to clean-install Windows in order to upgrade smoothly. If your hardware fails to meet the requirements for Windows 7, then you'll need to either purchase a new Windows 8.1 PC or tablet or install a Linux version compatible with your PC.
