I was hoping somebody could help me with this problem...

Last night I left the computer running as it was backing up a DVD. This
morning I found the PC on with the monitor on stand-by and the DVD-RW Drive
open. I turned the monitor off and the on again hoping it would start but no
luck. I turned the computer off and rebooted it.

But all it does now is turn the monitor on stand-by, I know that it's the
computer doing it as when the monitor is turned on when disconnected I get
the normal 'No Signal, Please Check Connection' message. I've tried another
monitor but I get the same results.

I'm running Windows XP Home Edition, an AMD Athlon Processor, and I have 778
RAM. I installed an ATI Radeon 9600 Graphic Card 2 days ago (although, I
couldn't find the previous one so that's still in there). As well as a
DVD-RW and 512 RAM.

I would extremely appreciate any help on this. I'm sorry if this is the
wrong NG to be posting to, if nobody can help, could they please point me in
the right direction? Thank You.

Lawrence Gardiner.

Is it possible you had BUILT IN graphics on your motherboard? If so, you
need to disable the onboard video card (the one on the motherboard) or the
two video cards could be conflicting with each other. Try removing the ATI
Radeon 9600. If that solves the problem, go into your BIOS setup (hit del
as the computer is starting up) and look for the onboard graphics, and turn
them OFF. Then save and exit setup. Now unplug the computer and reinstall
the Radeon 9600. -Dave

Thanks Dave, I've tried this already with no luck. Any other input you can
offer would be appreciated. Thanks

Remove the new stick of ram and try to boot again. If still won't boot , RMA
the video card.

OK, I'm trying to follow this mess, but I think the OP said he had no video
with the new video card or the old one. -Dave

(although, I

You couldn't find it, as in the expansion card was not there. AS said
it sounds like integrated VGA its on the mainboard. Remove all devices
for now, no harddrive, no CDROMS, pull the IDE cables from the
mainboard (noting where the 'red' stripe is)and pull the power leads.
Remove (or try reseating if not done) the 9600 and plug the monitor
into the OB graphics, The blue connector most likely. if there are 2
sticks of ram then remove one, if not reseat the one that's there.
Check KB and mouse connections. no USB devices other than
keyboard/mouse. Boot- can you see the POST screen? Check cmos/bios for
OB graphic settings. If you get that far put a device on a couple at a
time and boot as you go.

I'm now assuing that the old video card is onboard the motherboard
