I was wondering about the longevity my current build. Will it last me through College? GTX 970, i7-4790, 16gb DDR3.

Due to a money constraint, I was unable to build a computer like I wanted to. However, I found a great deal on a used Asus pre-built computer. It was $550 for a GTX 970, I7-4790, 16Gb DDR3, 128 SSD and 2 TB HHD. As of now, I can run demanding games like Witcher 3 at high setting, 60 frames at 1080p.

How long will this last me? I am a high school junior and will be attending a public school for 4ish years. Do you think I will be able to run games at 1080p, mid to high setting throughout college and the rest of high school. If the answer is “No”, when what upgrades would you recommondment for around $150 bucks? Thanks in advance

Well that depends, I cant predict how intensive future games will be or how well maxwell cards like the 970 will age in the coming years. As of right now it should be perfectly capable of playing the latest games at 1080p 60fps or close to it, near high settings depending on the game. If I had to guess, in 4 years a 970 will likely struggle to play games of that time with a decent framerate.

As of right now $150 wont get you anything that will significantly improve the performance of your PC. For gaming the first thing you will want to upgrade is the GPU, but like I said $150 wont get you anything better than a 970.

all things being bought and paid for ; use that set-up until it no longer plays AAA games @ or near high @ 30 or more FSP. Then upgrade the thing; in the meme time just save for money, and learn something while you're in school.
