[SOLVED] i3 10100f vs i5 9400f !!

Hello guys !

I am thinking of upgrading my cpu lately.I'll be pairing it with GTX 1070.

I am confused between-

i3 10100f + B460
AND
i5 9400f + B 365

Both combos are around 230USD where I live.

Which one should I go with??

It doesn't have hyperthreading, but has 2 more physical cores, and has about the same speed per core.

Both cpus are pretty similar in performance. One 4core/8thread, the other 6core/6thread.
I'd go 10th gen - i3 10100f. It gives you better upgrade options, if you decide to upgrade later.

May be you can increase your budget to accommodate i5-10400F. That's 6core/12thread cpu.

Nah he could save upto 10.00 - 20.00 , I rather him go for the 9400F, it's a really great cpu.

If the OP does 9400F + B365, then the only possible step up is a 9700, which adds just 2 more cores/threads. [Assuming they're the type to change out cpus every 2-3years or something.]
A B365 board isn't going to handle an i9 well.

They'll have more options with 10th gen.

I’d get the i3 just for the better upgrade path in the future. Both CPU’s perform nearly identical in games. Should you upgrade in future the 10th i3 to compatible i7 is a bigger increase than a 9th gen i5 to compatible i7.

If we can't jump to the 10600K, I'd opt for the B550/R5-3600....; until 5600X is back in stock, the 3600 is a good value choice...
