hey,

I have an old i430tx motherboard with a P233 cpu on it and 64mb of ram.

my question is:
Is it possible to go higher than 64Mb of ram, i have heard somewhere that this cant be done as the maximum size the mobo can take is 64mb. ive tried myself to go higher but only get blue screen errors as soon as NT4.0 starts to load up.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated, Thanks!

It depends on m/b. The maximum 430TX can support is up to 256MB ram, but only 64 cashable. It means , if you put more than 64 MB computer will slow down. Blue screens may indicate defective memory (or m/b).

LOL

Thats the same exact system I have.
I430TX made by Biostar.

But, sitting right here on the desk next to me is my solution for better performance.

an Antec SX830 tower all loaded up with case fans
a box with an Asus A7V133 motherboard
SBlive 5.1
and 30 gig HD

A few more components (c'mon tax refund) and this I430tx goes to my sons bedroom. I can't wait to dive into this little project.
I've learned alot from the peeps on this BB.
I thought I would be upgraded in like a weeks time.
Not being a big computer head, I soon found I had alot to learn and research. That was almost 2 months ago. LOL
First thing I do when I come home from work is take my dinner to the computer and check out Tom's Community.
Well, after wrestling my son from the chair and away from his games. LOL
Do yourself a favor if ya can aford it.
Start planning on a replacement for that antique.
(no offense intended)

And while I'm sitting here rambling on and on

Where have you guys been hiding Steve Benoit?
I really enjoy your informative posts Steve.
I thank you and everyone else for all the info.
Only thing I don't like seeing would be the long flaming
Intel vs. AMD posts.

OK I'm shutting up now LOL

Now, I found in the manual to my GigaByte 586T2 that it´s possible to use SIMMs of 4-128MB size. I hope that it´s then also possible to use 128MB DIMMs as well!!! Shouldn´t it?

Hey, if you convince my parents to get me a new computer I will stop talking about outdated components.

SEARCH FIRST, THEN POST

Hey, try it, I have heard recently that it would work, I just never tried it myself. It should support it, buy the memroy from a store, if it does not work, take it back!

Suicide is painless...........

ok heres the prob i have.

And no...im not talking about how crap my motherboard is!

the thing is im trying to upgrade it to 128MB of ram from 64Mb.

But everytime i try it (1 single Dimm module) i keep getting blue screen errors. now at first i thought it was due to bad memory but i have since tried it out on two other computers without any problems.

Also, if i add two 64 dimms, it still crashes..or.. if i add one 64mb and one 32 dimm is crashes.

Im really stuck as i have no clue how to get round this, it seems that anything over 64mb will crash but anything under works fine. Ive also tried 32mb and 16mb and so on and they all work fine.

Please help me, I know ive got a crap motherboard but you really cant hold that against me...... Can you?

hey!
