Question i5-12400 or Ryzen 5 5600x?

So it is time for a new gaming build. I have only dealt with AMD in the past (previously had a ryzen 5 3600), and having trouble deciding which cpu/mobo to get. I have narrowed my choices down to a Intel i5-12400 paired with a MSI MAG Z690 tomahawk or a Ryzen 5 5600x paired with a MSI MAG B550 tomahawk. Which would be better in value, performance (in heavier games and apps like Adobe suite) and longevity?

Why the Z690 board for the 12400 when a less expensive B660 board would suffice.

Good point. I was under the assumption that the Z690 only are compatible with the LGA 1700 chipset

MSI has some pretty decent deals on B660 boards. Look at the MSI Pro B660 boards and if you want a higher end B660 board then look at the MSI B660M Mortar and MSI B660 Tomahawk.

what motherboard do you have with the 3600? You should check and see if you can put a 5600x in it. If not the 12400 is the way to go.
