How huge is performance difference between i5 2500 and overclocked i5 2500k? Benchmarks would be really appreciated.

-Unlocked multiplier (allows overclocking)

I would love to give you some benchmarks but I personally don’t know of any as they would be based on a case by case base on what you are able to overclock your computer to. You can what the little difference can make between the Intel Core i5-2400 and the Intel Core i5-2500K from this comparison http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/288?vs=363.

Since a lot of people have reported reaching 4.5GHz and above you should be able to get some fairly impressive benchmarks with the Intel Core i5-2500K.

If you are going to overclock, then there's no reason to skimp on the $10 - $15 difference between the two processors. A clock speed of 4.5GHz is pretty impressive and will kill a normally clocked i5-2500 in any applications that's dependent on the CPU. Most games are limited by the video card but a faster CPU and generally result in slightly better frame rates; depending on the game.

Overclocking the i5-2500k to 4.0GHz is more common.

i5-2500 and i5-2500k both have Turbo Boost option. Can H series mobo like ASRock H61M-VS be able to Turbo Boost or minimal overclock? Gamer on heavy budget.

The only OC on the I5-2500 is thru the increase in bus, and that is very limited (NOT worth it), and affect much more than the CPU causing problems. The k ver is OCed by raising the Multiplier (Deviation from previous Cpus where you could raise the bus and the Mulitplier.

4.2 is almost a given, with 4.6-> 4.8 not to difficault.
Took mine to 4.6 just by using ASrocks OC software (It's a little over aggressive on Vcore).

Bottom Line go for it - that is the K with a P67, or (I prefer) the Z68 MB.

Non-K CPUs can "OC", but only very little as I think they are limited to BLK and TurboBoost increase so a you might be able to reach 3.7-3.8GHz at most (and that is assuming you get a very good MB because BLK doesn't OC that well (I think the best I have seen in reviews is going from 100Mhz to 108Mhz and that was n a high-end board which doesn't fit your budget).

The non K version of i5 2500 can be overclocked to a maximum of 4.3Ghz(1 core active) and 4GHz(all 4 core active) on an ASUS p8p67.Set the multiplier to 41 , BCLK frequency to 105.4 and increase the CPU vCore by 0.025V.Thats it.

Note:I was successful in pushing the BCLK to 106Mhz and didn't try anything afterwards as the motherboard temp would reach 40C.For stability I pushed back to 105.4.

Hey I've got a question. Tomorrow I will buy my processor and I need to know something...
My Mobo is an Asus p8h67-m Pro.. Should I Buy the 2500 or the 2500k?
As far as I know, with H67 chipsets I can only overclock the graphics at the same level as with the 2500k. But to overclock the cores or memory I need a p67 chipset or z..

Well, my mobo is here so I won't change it. Should I Go for the 2500k? because of the graphics HD 3000 in comparison with the graphics HD 2000 of the 2500? I will be able to buy my video card (gtx560 1gb) in a month or so.. So what do you recommend me? thank you very much..

Core i5-2500, which runs at 3.3GHz by default. When a single core is active, the chip can turbo up to 3.7GHz. If you want, you can change that turbo state to go as high as 4.1GHz. Overclocking these chips relies entirely on turbo however. In the case above, the fastest your chip will run is 4.1GHz but with only one core active. If you have four cores active the fastest your chip can run is 3.8GHz. Makes sense?

K-series of CPUs, with the Core i5-2500K and Core i7-2600K. These chips are fully unlocked and will let you overclock them as far as the CPU and/or your cooling can sustain.

I know that, but what I want to know is if I should buy it only for the HD 3000 Graphics, because I have an H67 chipset MOBO so I won't probably be able to overclock it like with a p67... Only graphics..

No you buy a gpu for graphics not a cpu
For what do you want to use it for? What cpu do you have currently?

I will buy the gtx560 in a month or so, money issues. So I'll be using my PC without GPU for a month.. a veerrryyy long month.. and I've heard that there's a big difference betwen Intel HD Graphics 2000 and 3000.
And I also thought that maybe after buying the GPU (who knows, some months later, I could sell the p8h67 and buy a p8p67 and OC it..

Thank you for that info.. I will have to check it later because I live in Argentina and I don't think that it'll be available here at the moment it's released there in the U.S.A.

So, should I buy a 2500k? maybe to upgrade later buying a p8p67 or other overclocking-enabled mobo (in the future) and to take advantage of the intel hd 3000 until I buy the GPU..
