Hello,
I just finish putting my build together last nite. Upgraded harddrive today and installed win 7.
I got the Asrock board alot have been recamending and i got that Hyper cooler also.

Atm i got both sides off while i finish up tying some of the wires up and installing window updates and all the good stuff. I got 8gigs of Rip mem, and gtx 550 ti.

When i check the Asrock program that watches the cpu , mb temp and volts . my Cpu is sitting at around 34c and 91f give or take 2 deg. same for MB.

But when i touch the Cpu cooler/fan its cold to the touch so is everything else in the case and the are. My room stays around 68 to 70deg.

i was wondering if this was normal or should i buy some better paste to put on it. Any help is apreciate it dont want to burn my CPU before i get to play any games. Thanks.

dont worry about better paste. that barely effects it. i read a comparison of like 10 of the most popular thermal pastes plus some oddball items like vegemite, the australian yeast paste, and the temp between the pastes was less than 5% actually vegemite beat a few normal pastes.
just remember when putting it on that more isnt always better. metal to metal is ideal for heat transfer. paste just fills the air gaps.

I thought this guy was bonkers until I did a little research. The spread from worst to best on this 80 way shootout http://benchmarkreviews.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=150&Itemid=62 indicated that from worst to best tested was about 6 degrees celcius. Of course, the application technique is really important too. Too much can be worse than none at all!

34 C @ idle is fine, More important is temps under load.

A good benchmark to use on cooling is with the system buttoned up, Idle should be between 5 -> 10 C above your room temperature. ie if room (ambient temp) is 22 C then 27C -> 31 C is great, above 37 - look to improve. For normal load ie running a game, the temp should be around 20C->30C above ambient. I normally run prime95 to test upper temp under load. This temp will be HIGHER than normal load and should be under 70C for a system that has a "good HSF ( and seated well) and a case with good airflow.

Your temps seem to be right in line with the 2500k system i built for a friend. I found his load temps a bit high, but still within spec.

Your heatsink feels cool since when the cpu is idle. it clocks down. this lowers its temperature to the point that the fan keeps heat build up in check(keep the heatsink "cool" feeling). At load it will get warmer, but the fan will also speed up for most boards.

Yeah the temps are fine mate

It does matter what paste you use on high end rigs. For instance using the cheap white silicon based TP on my I5 was 11 degrees hotter than it was with AS5.

This was load temps and my cpu was overclocked to 5ghz

So yes it can make a big difference, just depends on what paste you have originally before replacing and if you oc or not.

You have a 212..

OVERCLOCK that thing....

With stock cooling, you would be in the 70-80 range....for real. you are not just good....your temps are great :)

Hard to beat the price/performance ratio of that cooler. I have used 4 of those so far, they never disappoint.

i havent tried OCing since a bout 10yrs ago with my first build. ( didnt go to well ) is there some good guides ?

atm i get 25fps on ultra in Rift and on high i get 50fps in city or combat with up to 80fps just standing still. But if i cant run BF3 good then i will look into OCing it.

yea i am running at 29 to 30 c with just window browsing . Will wait till i get a new PSU and thinking of going with another graphic card for SLI before i try any OCing. thanks all.
