Hi folks,

I was digging through dmesg today when I noticed:
Code:
[ 1045.760470] CPU1: Package temperature above threshold, cpu clock throttled (total events = 1)
Which obviously was a red flag for me.

I then looked through mcelog and found that this has been dating back to May. I looked in the bios and saw that CPU fan speed is set to max, seems to be spinning just fine.

lm-sensors shows the CPU fan speed at 2800 RPM, and all four cores idling at around 95C. WTF?

I have three case fans and they are all clean. What could be going on here? Is the CPU defective? Is the mobo defective? Should I RMA either?

Is it possible that I could have been experiencing data corruption due to these temp issues, or do CPUs have ECC built in to prevent that?

In any case, I'm pretty bummed.

Ideas?

Thanks!

Sounds like you cooler isn't making good contact with the CPU. Check and see all the post are secure and the heat sink is making good contact with the CPU.
