which of those setups would net me better performance and "relative" future proofing in gaming with no OC or SLI now or in the future

i5 3350p + R7 250 "or a 7750 if i manage to find it"
or
i3 4130 + R7 260x

those 2 options are the best i could come up with in my price range but ofc I'm open for suggestions

Uh why in the world would you people reccomnd the i3 4130 over the i5 3350, So what if the i3 is a hasswell! The ivy bridge i5 is much faster and a much better choice, The R7 250 stinks, So I would try to get another card, But even if you have to get the r7 250 just to get the i5 do it, A i5 3350 witha r7 250 will perform the same or better than a i3 4130 with the r7 260x

Look at this link and scroll down to the benchmarks , http://cpuboss.com/cpus/Intel-Core-i5-3350P-vs-Intel-Core-i3-4130

You can clearly see the i5 quad core 3350 is a much better cpu, You would be dumb to get the i3 dual core over it. Who cares if it comes with a R7 250 , you will save a huge chunk of money in future cpu upgrade buying another gpu later, However like I said the i5 with a R7 250 will actually do better than a i3 with a 260x , I have a 1st gen i5 750 I got it in late 2009, And I still have not had to upgrade my 1st gen i5 yet, I run only a crappy cheap GTX 650 Ti and it runs games perfect, And would I trade my first gen i5 for a haswell i3? Hxxx NO! The i3 hasswell may show better in single core (that no longer matters) but when it comes to modern operations my 1st gen kills it.

Dont lie to him buddy, everybody knows a i7 4960x with R9 240 is better than i3 4130 + GTX 780. JK

BTW buy the i3 4130 i will get one too with a GTX 660 😀

ok, i will worship the ground you walk on if you can tell me how the i5 will render graphics any better than an i3 can. I'd love to know seeing as how it is the Graphics Processing Unit that does all that stuff. No one in their right minds would say that the haswell i3 is a better CPU than an ivy i5, however gaming doesn't care too much about cpus.

an i3 is more than capable of driving even a 280X or GTX 770 to 60 FPS on highest settings in a lot of games, only extremely demanding games will see the i3 drop down to less than 40 FPS (keep in mind that this is an example, i'm not advocating pairing a 770 with an i3). But hey, if you want to think that getting a better CPU by getting a worse GPU will net you a better gaming experience, hey don't let me stop you from believing that. In the real world, that i3 with a better gpu will get better frame rates at higher resolutions with higher detail options than the i5.

not sure why your stuck on intel. the $120 fx6300 would be a much better overall system cpu than the dual core 4130. ive seen 260x's for sale as low as $110 while the 750ti is quite a bit more with an at best price of $150... that doesn't scale well as far as price to performance. ive also seen 650ti boosts for $150 and they are definitely a little bit faster than the 750ti. the 750ti is a great card if you want a low power quiet mini-itx rig, or specifically need a few of its features that nvidia pack into it, but i dont think its the best choice when a few more bucks gets you much better performance. you can get a gtx660 for $169 after rebate and promo code from newegg right now, thats a ton more gpu performance for only 20 bucks.

if we knew your budget it would be better, also what other components you are looking at as you might be over spending in certain areas where you can free up some extra cash to get a better cpu and gpu combo.
