Looking to build mid range gaming pc for light multi tasking. Was going to buy an i5 6500 or 7500 but noticed the i5 7400 seems to have similar specs to the i5 6500.

Is it worth getting the i5 7400 as its currently £169 in UK vs £185 for i5 6500?

Or should I wait for the elephant in the room in the form of a quad core ryzen chips?

Thanks

Personally I would at least wait for benchmarks. To actually see how an 8 Core Ryzen stands up against an 8 Core Intel in single threaded and multi-threaded tasks.

Potentially, for the price of the i5-7400. You could by a 4 Core, hyperthreaded, and unlocked Ryzen. Giving you i7-6700k/7700K performance.

Thanks for all the replies. Still waiting to see how the top RYZEN chips perform.

Will be interesting, although it could be a while to build a system with them.

If Intel drop the i5 prices to around £120 it could make things very interesting. Although I don't think they will.

Hopefully RYZEN is the shake up we need.
