Iam working on OCing my i5 750, Is the max temp for the i5 750 99C ? ATM i have load line enabled the rest at normal ( ram 1.66 )

I have a 170x 20 for 3.4 atm, In intel burn test on high my temps are 38 to 72 load ( IT DID PASS ) In prime95 small ffts 4 loops it about 68 max load.

just looking for some kind of number to see if its about right.

BTW my HSF is my old Dark Knight off my E 8400 build

Is it constantly at 1.25v, or does it go down to something like 0.8 or 1.1?

Whenever I activated my overclocked profile (~3.4 GHz for gaming/editing), my motherboard automatically sets the voltage to 1.20 at load (1.12 at idle), whereas the stock settings are 1.25-ish at load but 0.8v at idle. It seems weird that the stock setting's peak voltage is higher than the overclocked setting's peak voltage, but I have turbo and c-state off for the overclocking profile because it causes problems.

Try lowering the voltage bit by bit and test for stabiilty. Prime95 would cough up errors if the voltage is too low. Your system might even stop responding or shut down completely. However, those things are expected when overclocking. Better get used...

I wouldn't recommend letting your processor go past 80. 99 is the absolute highest the processor will go before the motherboard starts throttling or shutting off to protect the CPU. I presume you haven't increased voltages over stock yet?

Since you are using an air cooler, if you absolutely must raise voltages, don't go higher than 1.4v. You can easily reach 3.2GHz without touching voltages at all. Do you have a target frequency, or do you just want to go up as high as possible? If it's the former, try to reach a stable configuration first (raise voltages if necessary, tweak memory ratios if necessary), then try cutting back the voltage bit by bit. Ideally, you want to work with as low a voltage as possible. The higher voltages are just for overclocking headroom. If it's the latter, then go crazy, but don't go over 1.4v. The memory can also affect the stability of the overclock, but since your modules are 1600MHz ones, I don't think they'll give you a problem, as long as you run them at 1600MHz or lower.
 
ATM i have it stable at 3.4 with load line ( on ) and set volts to 1.25000 the rest i set to normal and set my ram at 1.66v

I like to hit 3.6 but with the temps hitting 71 C in intel burn and 69C in prime95 for 1 and a half hours, not sure if i should try higher because i might need to up the volts and that would add more heat.

How many ram sticks do you have? 2 or 4?

I could get mine at 3.6GHz (No Turbo, all else on, though speedstep didn't seem to work) and 1.15V with load line on. With a Hyper 212+ it would max in the mid/upper 50's C. I've since dropped my OC to 3.25GHz (and Turbo On) which requires the stock voltage of 1.06V (the Turbo 3.7GHz does the default 1.2V).

I use LinX for accuracy checking. If you aren't getting about 50 GFlops or higher at 3.4GHz+, then something is wrong.

Try with the Ram speed low and timings loose at first to reduce strain on the IMC (that way you are changing less variables at a time.
 
With 2 sticks you should be pretty safe on the memory controller voltage. If you have an in-line power meter, you could use that to get good estimates of the additional heat load the overclocking is putting on your cooler. What temps did you get at stock speeds/volts? I think your cooler and my 212+ are fairly similar.
 


when it was stock about 23C to 50C OCed 38 to 42 to 72 in prime95 for a hour and a half.
 
I agree 100% on the lower voltages. Notice my ram is underclocked and at 1.5V at the moment.

niklas brings up something that has confused me for a while. Back when I had my i5 at 3.6GHz, I had all the power saving features on and turbo off. It would no longer downclock/volt at idle, However, it consumed the same power (and had the same very low temps) as it did when unOC'ed (and when it did downclock/volt). For moderate OCes, I think you should be able to turn the power saving features on. I noticed no negatives to them being on. The only reason I reduced my OC was I felt I didn't really need the speed and it was more current stress than I wanted to put on the socket (if not necessary).

Temps 34

Ran Intelburn test temps got to 60C ( test failed after 2 loop ) why did it fail this time ? yes i lowered volts but with higher volts it passed but temps was @ 72 C

Prime95 blend test failed worker 3 in 9 mins rest of the workers passed 1 hour ( temps 58C max ) ok so up the volts ? ram or CPU ?


what program is best to test CPU and ram ? or should i use memtest over night and something else to check CPU ?

Like to get this stable before i get into OCing my GPU Because when i try to OC that HD 5850 to 775/ 1125 my games lock :( not to happy with that cards OCing

Prime blend usually points to the memory or memory controller being overworked. try dropping the ram multiplier just as a test.

Maybe up the core to 1.2V? That is a little disappointing it would need that much, but all chips do vary.

Just for reference on your 5850, I think my card could get to the low 800-810 range on stock volts before it became inaccurate. Ram I think could do at least 1125. unfortunately I haven't had it OCed in quite a while so I can't remember for sure,

You can get 3.6ghz without needing to touch voltage or vcore.

I dont' really understand what your asking though in the post, are you worried about maximum oc that you can get and how to get it? or like what temps should i have at this frequency type of thing.

My full load temps are right around 58C

my idle cpu is 28, and my CPU cores are around 15C

I really like the Real Temp test for OC. It will tell you your temp distance from tjmax at various cpu loads, and is used with prime95.

As for your GPU problem try keeping the memory at stock values then increasing the GPU clock.

I havn't read everything in here, but your all your information my i5 750 @ 3.61ghz runs undervolted at 1.18 volt and it passed every test I threw at it.
Never above 53* in games and never over 63 in burn tests.
Cool It Eco ALC.
I heard it performs as well as a mid-high end aircooler.

I was able to reach 4.0ghz with 1.35 volt.
In games it would hit 55-60 and burn tests 65-69.
Never hit 70.


I prefered to stay overclocked and undervolted (stock voltage being 1.25) than hacing a massive overclock and higher voltage/temps.

Some people told me my chip was a good one, I believe so, but every one should be able to undervolt their i5 and get an overclock.
I bet I can find a better sweet spot :) I'm just too lazy haha
 


I can OC to 3.6 MHz easy also but when i do my MAX temps are like 72 to 75C I am trying to get my temps down and stay at 3.4 MHz ( but having problems finding the sweet spot for volts and settings.

I would like a 3.4 MHz OC with tamps that did not pass 60C stress testing and 55C in games

Try 20*170 BLCK and enable : Enable load line calibration.
Set the vcore to 1.15 and the ram at rated voltage (ie :1.5 or 1.65).
All the rest on auto.
Boot and burn a test.
If it crash, up the voltage by a notch.
 


What program do you use for testing M8 ?

1.66 shouldn't kill the memory IMO.
For the case, I'm kinda sad that kind of thing exist on the market, 140$ you have a haf 932 ...
Now you are stuck with a full alu case but with 2 fans ... sigh ...
