I'm going to be building my new rig. It'll have two 1080's (at some point, not immediately). I'm positive an overclocked 7600k won't bottleneck anything, but will the 7500? I don't mind spending the money if it's needed, but if I don't really need it then I don't see the point.

Thanks everyone.

Solution

Agreed, Crixillian is mistaken.

The 7500 has a base of 3.4ghz. You will be able to drive those SLI 1080's, no bother. Will you have a slight bottleneck?.....maybe. You can negate that with the 7600k, and as you pointed out you can OC it should you need. But the 7600k has a higher base frequency and single core up to 4.2 ghz already. The 7600k would be my choice.

Yes, I know that. But a cpu can hinder the performance of a gpu. An i3 would do quite poorly playing GTA V in 4k.

Solution
There are games where an i5 7500 will not maintain 60fps, regardless of whether you're running 720P or 4K, GTX 750 or GTX 1080 SLI. However, the i5 still provides respectable performance.

My opinion, if you're going to spend $1200+ on GPUs, spend the extra $100 and get an i7 7700 so you don't have to deal with random dips in framerate.
