Is i5 8500 much better then i5 8400? Should i overpay in situation when every single dollar matters?

I actually think the i5 8500 is worth it, it's increase in gaming performance compared to the i5 8400 is only 2% , however it supports most of intel's latest technologies while the i5 8400 doesn't.

Wrong. The 8500 is just a higher binned i5 compared to the 8400.

I'd recommend to get the 8500 because it's not much more expensive and it's a bit better.

Nope wouldn't buy, max of 3% difference for 10-20% price difference depending on where you live

You didn't read what I said. 'Higher binned' and 'it's a bit better' is the exact same as 'it's only around 2% better at gaming'. Please read before trying to bash someone's comment.

In the UK it's only like £3-7 more expensive. So it's totally worth it.

Wow, $25. In Amazon UK it's only around £3 more expensive.

What are those "latest technologies" that the 8500 supports and the 8400 doesn't?

When it comes to the base frequency, the 8500 is ~7% better. The 8500 also costs ~5% more. I'd say it's a better buy.

You will see that the i5 8400 doesn't support a number of features when the i5 8500 does.
