i5-8600k or i7-8700k

I have a gtx 1080 in my pc rigth now and i am going to buy a new motherboard and a 8700k or 8600k but i heard the 8600k can ovreclock higher and gets much less hot, so is it worth to get the 8600k instead off the 8700k and save 100 euros?

If you can afford the 8700K then get it, it is better. Higher cache and more threads, even disabling hyper-threading on it will make it better than the 8600K because of the higher cache.

Only if the money saved will help you elsewhere, such as a better GPU would you want to go with the 8600K.

well, if i buy a i7 8700k ill probs need to buy a watercooler asswell and thats another 150 bucks

That's not exactly necessary. What CPU cooler do you have or would you buy with the 8600K?

I dont believe its true that the i5 clocks higher.

I would go for the 8700k as you are running a high end gpu, the i7 will make the most of it.

Siliconlottery.com has 8600K up to 5.3GHz but the 8700K is only up to 5.2GHz. So maybe the 8600K can overclock a little better. Anyway for just gaming the 8600K is plenty. In fact when both cpu's are overclocked they perform about the same in games. The 8700K would give you a little extra performance for the future. Right now a 4 core 8 thread i7 is about equal to a 5 core 5 thread CPU or a lower clocked 6 core 6 thread CPU. Right now games don't need more than the old hyperthreaded quad core cpu. So even the 6 core 8600k is a little futureproof. Mainly you want to get the 8700k if you need to do workstation type tasks or game streaming.
