So, my mom who games wants a new computer. She tells me that if I build her one, she will buy 2 of everything and let me build myself a new computer also. So, here we go
I'm looking for suggestions for a i5 gaming system that has a ssd drive. The idea of this system would be to utilize money where its most necessary. IE. not to spend $200 on a case when a $50 works. I do want to overclock this. off the top of my head, this is what I have.
i5 750 $200
cpu cooler $50-100
mobo $100-200
ram $50-150
hdd (data _everything else) $50-100
ssd (os + cpl games) $200-300
gpu $250-300
psu $50-100
oem os $100
lcd $200-300
misc drives $50-100
keyboard,speakers,mouse,etc $50-100
----------------------------------------------------------
my projected range---$1350-2050
her idea was to spend 1200 on a premade asus i7 920 desktop w/ geforce 260 in it and tossing a after market cpu cooler and ssd in it. so cost closer to $1600... I convinced her otherwise... so the more money I can save, then the more likely my nefarious plan will work.
I realize that this is quite a range. just keep the rule of thumb that if a more expensive item doesnt produce a noticeable difference... swap it out. Noticable= something that would make you sit there and go "damn, why is this taking so long" or "why is this game playing poorly"... stuff like that.
