A few weeks ago my CPU (i7 2600) was at around 70c idle which I know was really bad so I instantly went out and bought a CoolerMaster 212 Evo CPU cooler and pulled idle to around 35c-45c, but under stress my temps go up to around 60c on my CPU is this bad?, should i be concerned.

I have had this CPU for just about 2.5 years, Thanks in advance.

No, that's the normal-ish temperature on full load. My I7 gets to about 50º but the weather here is rather cold.

You might want to take a look at this thread.

3D Mark, Guild Wars 2 which is the most CPU intensive game I know when you have 100s of people on screen

Prime95 was commonly used for testing pre-Haswell CPUs ..... Furmark is the "go to" utility for testing GPUs. The problem with using games to test CPUs is that it's not comparable to other users because every game is different, people play at different settings and even if both those are the same, different portions of the game will produce different results.

So as to be able to compare "apples and apples" a "standard" testing program is generally used. I use these

GPU - http://www.ozone3d.net/benchmarks/fur/
CPU - http://rog.asus.com/241042013/overclocking/rog-realbench-free-app-download-now/

For cooling .... based upon budget:

$30 solution - Hyper 212

$60 solution - Phanteks PH-TC14PE .... gets you an extra 7 - 10C over $30 solution

$90 solution - DH-15 or Cryorig R1 ..... gets you an extra 1- 2 C over $60 solution

$140 solution - Swiftech H220-X ..... get you an extra 4 - 5C over $90 solution
