Hello,
I've got an I7 2600 in a Sabertooth motherboard. At idle it shoots up to 128c. I've tried the stock cooler and an aftermarket, they both run the same. Checked the back of the board to be sure the heat sink feet were fully inserted, no change. Do I possibly have a bad CPU?

Most likely it is a faulty sensor but you never know. Does your case feel hot because I'm pretty sure you should feel it at 128c. Are you reading in Fahrenheit, well that is 53 C and that is still hot for idle. Did you check if your voltages? Board could have auto set it very high.
