I7 2600k processor for only games ?

can this processor play any games for now and two years in future ( at least ) in max setting , and what the best motherboard for it ?



i alreading have :
680 gtx
8gb ram
windows 7 64
1200 power supply

do you know that 2600k is older generation? 3770k or 3570k is the king today and the price is similar

and you can get asrock z77 extreme4 board for 120ish. and gigabyte/asus z77 for a bit higher price

anyway, your build is awesome dude... i7 + 680 is a beast

Yes it can but you can get i5-2500k which would be cheaper.Games can barely leverage more than 2-3 threads/core for the most part. Unless video editing/rendering,photoshop, 3D rendering and other tasks that tend to be more heavily threaded account for a significant chunk of your workload then no, i7 is not worth the expense.

The Core i5 3570K or i5-2500k those are just about the best processor you can get for the money today. With plenty of performance, top notch overclocking capability and enough horsepower to run any game you throw at it, the choice is a no brainer.

and i find these prices for the processor and motherboard

i7 3770k = form 320$ to 360$

Z77 = from 140$ to 160$

3770k has additional thread (not core) and it is only helpful for professional software. useless for game
