I7 3770K & H100 Temperatures

Hi

I have overclocked my i7 Core 3770K to 4.5 Ghz on a H100 water cooler.

After running Prime95 for 45 minutes my processor was already hitting 90c, surely this is not right?

I have heard that 105c is the limit for a 3770K but should it be getting close to that over a short time or should I be hitting 90c only after running at full load for hours?

Core 0 has only reached around 82c while core 1 & 2 are around 90c and core 3 is only around 80c

My core voltage is 1.3, all I did was turn up the turbo ratio to 44 and let it do the rest itself.

Is there something wrong or is this normal?

Hey Bud I would Advise keeping your Temps Under 90c cause Max Cpu is 105c!! & it seems like u did everything right just Check for Stable for Cpu & when you Game if your Game Crashes or anything you're not Stable etc.

To give you some information: i7 3770K - Hyper 212 EVO heatsink.

4.2 GHz OC idles at 36 degs. C (multi tasking 20 tabs open)

4.6 GHz OC idles at 40 degs. C (multi tasking 20 tabs open)

What are your idle temps.?

My idle temps are around 35C.

I ran Prime95 for five hours and it never went above the 90C mark it hit near the start and I played The Witcher 2 for four hours straight last night as well with no freezes or abnormalities.

Nice that good Results long as any of your Games dont Crash you're Stable if your Game Crashes you're not Stable etc. Good Overclock

Ivy Bridge Max Cpu Temp is 105c I would keep it under 95 you're good to go always watch your Temps Never use Intel Burn Test cause that Will Max your Cpu like Crazyy Temps prob over 100+ & Good Luck Bud

I think that I'd try dropping voltage a little to see if it can run stably with somewhat lower voltage and thus lower temps if I was you. Those aren't horrible temps for an Ivy CPU IMO, but they're worth trying a little harder to improve.

Yes I agree with Blazorthon ^ try lower your voltage if Possible? then just go into Gaming & it will let you know if your Cpu is Stable or not if not Bump your voltage back where it was then You're set!

I own a i7 3770K and Seidon 120M Liquid cooling unit it ran stable with 4.5 hz (100x45) ive set the volts on auto and it was just 1.27v max it ran stable (played Blackops 2 on MAX settings on 1 monitor while having autocad on the other monitor with this it just spiked 60 but rest on 35 - 55) ...

but on burn in test my temp reaches 85 Max on prime95 running one of the members here told me that its wise to keep temp below 70c so i have downclock my 3770K to 4.3 Ghz still on auto volts just using the multiplier i now have a steady 65- 69 c on prime 95 test from my exp. its best keep the voltage on auto and just increase the multiplier .. mine was x45 on 4.5 and x43 on 4.3 @ 100Mhz .. it always ran stable till i tried 5.0 on auto volts LOLz windows crashes on boot ahahaha

Now my good sirs, is 85c on 4.5Ghz good ? or should i just stick to 60-69 @ 4.3Ghz ... I have benchmarked both clock ... there isnt much difference really .. but i have to say Its fuckin cool to see 4.5 AHAHAHA


Btw I also have 5 system Fans on Exhaust and intake duties on a Coolermaster case

85C from Prime shouldn't be bad, especially since temps using Prime are much higher than normal workloads.

Keeping temps below around 70C is important for AMD's CPUs, but heat shouldn't be an issue for Ivy Bridge CPUs such as the i7-3770K so long as you keep it well under about 100C.

When I multitask 20/30/40 tabs it has no effect on the cpu usage or temperatures. It just uses more ram.

Emilvl2, have you tried using a negative offset setting on the cpu voltage or maybe re-paste the heat spreader? Seems a tad high for water cooling but I'm still using a HSF. What MB are you using in this system?

*Closed Loop* water coolers such as the H100 aren't really better than many of the high end air coolers 😛

When I game it doesn't go above 70C, it is only Prime95 that makes it go to 90C.

xD you have sabertooth mobo and you go 4.5 at 1.3 vcore you are crazy just lower your voltage
some people do it less than 1.2 vcore
i have msi z77 mpower mobo i overclock my cpu 4.5 at 1.235 vcore stable i am very not lucky with this mobo or cpu cause many people do this overclock with less voltage than me
my temp in this days go to 82 °c max on one core with h100i (performance mode) in prim95 and ambiant temp more than 30°C

I have a 3770k OC to 4.6Ghz at 1.205 vcore on a sabertooth board with the hyper 212 evo in push pull. Idle temps 40-45C with load temps on Prime95 at 78-82C, and 87-90 with IBT all with ambient of 29C room temp. You should be able to do much better. I personally would never use auto vcore as it will routinely push too much voltage.

Came across this old thread when searching for safe temps for a 3770K. Just to chime in with my results, running Prime95 I hit about 70c, overclocked to 4.7GHz and using a Corsair H55.
